Some positive signs.

Yeah, its Phoenix, but still, a few weeks ago the Sharks would
probably have gotten the clocks cleaned.

Their PK has been nothing short of spectacular.

Nabakov is playing great.

Thornton, on what up to now has been a low scoring team, is really
only a few points off the league lead. Couple good games and he's
there.

The Sharks are now getting some offensive contributions from
supporting cast members, which will take some pressure off the big
guns.

The big guns *will* start to click, eventually, and when they do, we
may see the team we expected.

The big question, of course, will be consistency.

Hopefully we can fatten up some more on Phoenix and get some payback
in Dallas....

Missed the game. Maybe, I should miss more of them. :-)

It wasn't televised. I think they have a streak going on non-
televised games! ;-)

I was listening while doing hard drive surgery on my laptop. They put
the knife in twice, scoring their first and second goals at the ends
of the first and second periods. If you're only going to score once
in a period, that's when I'd like to see them do it. The first one
was a shorty that Mitchell fed Grier. Mike finished it off the right
way, of any Shark, with the possible exception of Joe, I think Grier
does more things right than anyone else out there.

What is also encouraging is a quote in the Merc, I forget who, but one
of the Sharks was saying they feel like they're getting some "flow"
back into their game. That would be great, its been mostly painful
watching stilted and uncoordinated play up till now...

BTW... it should not go unnoticed that things seemed to start turning
a bit when Bernier decided to become more physical. Cheech also seems
to be getting better chances, but Marleau continues to be mostly
invisible. He did get two assists last night, but if I had to bet, I
would expect they were second assists, maybe just an outlet pass.

I feel like Grier doesn't get the credit he should around here (or
most other Sharks forums/publications). Last season, he was quite
obviously trying harder than anyone else out there. This season, it's
more of the same. He doesn't have the skills of a Marleau, Thornton,
Setoguchi or Mitchell, but he puts in way more effort than at least
one player on that list *cough cough*. His speed is also very
underrated.

In the first Phoenix game the backchecking and forchecking were much
better - less following the opponent around the ice. Hope it continues!

I only saw the highlights. Setoguchi looked great.

As far as this group is concerned, I think if you look back you will
find two things:

First, most of us had Grier wrongly pegged when DW acquired him. Not
too much excitement here, and many of us made fun of Grier and Brown,
lumping them together.

(But) Secondly, most of us heaped great praise on him last year and
pointed out he was probably DW's best move of a bad DW year. Here's a
sample from my end of year post:

"The save our bacon guy: Grier. Every year no matter what team you
follow there is usually a guy you love to see out there when big games
make you bite your nails. For me this year it's Grier."

"Guys who made me a fan: Grier, Brown, Clowe, none of whom I was
overly
excited about at the beginning of the year."

He's not Pahlsson, but he's a strong player who brings a very
consistent game each and every night. I think he's a favorite of many
in here, myself included, if not a fan favorite.
