That's exactly what it is, which is why we should disregard it. V doesn't
want to distract the team with Sundin hype, and is taking the high road. As
he should.

Why's that? Because the team is doing so well right now? A distraction
could upset the winning chemistry that's currently on display?

A distraction is a distraction, regardless of how well or poorly they are
playing.

I'll try...
I think what he's trying to get across in this media blurb is he wants to
wait until Sundin is physically here and has at least had some time to
practice with some of the guys to establish who he wants to play with before
naming names.
Or at least I hope that's what he's trying to get across. From the way he
said it though, it just sounds like he's been too lazy to do any real work.
In all honesty I think what he really means is he's not promising the spot
to Wellwood even though Wellwood is the one guy most people would think of
first. They're both skilled players who, on this team at least, belong on
the top 2 lines, and they've played together and have had some chemistry.
But we've all seen Vigneault's obesssion with having Wellwood centering two
goons on the 4th line while Pyatt struggles between rotating duty on the 1st
and 2nd lines. >> Stay informed about: V on possible Sundin linemates........ |

Heh, you're being far too generous and kind.
When he said, " .. Honest to God, since Mats has been named (signed),
I haven't given it a second thought and nobody else has either ", he's
either lying his ass off, or he's lying his ass off. By the way, how does
he know what other people have been thinking ?
If that is a true statement, that a coach wouldn't think of where a new player
would fit in, then he's scarier than I thought.

How could you not think of it though, unless your line combos are really
pulled out of a hat.

Judging on V's history here, I'd bet the farm he has no clue Wellwood and
Sundin played together, in fact, he probably doesn't know Wellwood even
played in the league. Probably thinks they got Wellwood from the Swedish
Elite League.

When he meets Sundin, he'll think, ahh he's big winger. Must be a grinder.
He looks like a guy we played against when I was coaching the Canadien to
an almost cup. Let's see, Hordie, Sundin and maybe we could trade for
that Cowan guy I think I heard of to play with them.

let's say it for what it is. V looked like an friggin idiot with that
answer. then again he is an idiot.
He should have said he was considering certain players but would have
to wait and see once he gets here.
I still say Wellwood should not be playing on the 4th line........ >> Stay informed about: V on possible Sundin linemates........ |

A proof is a proof. What kind of a proof? It's a proof. A proof is a proof.
And when you have a good proof, it's because it's proven.

Well if thats the case they are doomed never to play on the same
line....unless Sundin goes to the 4th line, and with V that is
possible! >> Stay informed about: V on possible Sundin linemates........ |

It makes no sense to me either. It seems as if V thinks Wellwood is
only a PP player and wants to keep his even strength ice time down.
Only Hordie and Brown have less total ice time, average ice time per
game, even strength ice time and average even strength ice time per
game.
Only Daniel, Raymond and Ohlund have a better plus/minus, so I don't
know why he'd think he's a liability 5 on 5.
Actually I think I do know why. Size. You got to be tough to play 5 on 5
hockey. You have to run around making noise crashing the boards
like a crazed banshee. It's no time for a small skilled player eh. Pffft on V.

Especially when our top two lines still need a finisher that fits in with
them. Wellwood can play with Demitra and/or with the twins. No one else
can play with both (sudb) and contribute nearly as effectively.
I don't know why V isn't realising it.

It just occurred to me, re Sundin............... - Just as an owner can grant other teams permission to talk to a GM they might be interested in getting, a GM can do the same for his coaching staff or players. So if Fletcher had an offer he liked, he could let them talk to Sundin and make their pitch. ....
sundin sign yet? - no? as u were then...
So Sundin is toast....... - ....... then what ? Trade is the only answer but I can't see a single 1st or second line center who could be got. Sundin doesn't come, we're hooped. The only hope would be if someone could come out of the woodwork, Wellwood, Raymond, the farm, and..
