COME SEE NEW UNIFORM ON SATURDAY! Islanders will take the ice in new uniform
for "Throwback Night"; Special sales "Third Jersey" sales event from Noon
to 4 pm
The Islanders unveiled their new alternate uniform Monday night at an
Islanders Business Club event prior to the start of their game against the
New York Rangers. The new uniform, which is reminiscent of the ones the
Islanders donned in the mid-1970s, is royal blue with white numbers and
letters, outlined in orange.
The Islanders will take the ice in the new uniforms for the first time on
Saturday against the Montreal Canadiens on "Throwback Night," sponsored by
Modell's. Click here to purchase tickets. The Islanders will wear the new
uniform a total of 15 times this season.
One thing about the jersey that is different than the original from the
1970s is that the stick?within the Islanders logo?has four lines on it.
This is to recognize the Islanders four Stanley Cup championships.
"I think the new jerseys are fantastic," said Bob Nystrom, a member of the
original 1972 Islanders squad. "The colors really bring me back to our
early teams. I think the fans are really going to buy into the jerseys
because anybody who saw the team when we played, will appreciate the
original colors. Plus, I like the subtle change they made to add another
strip to the stick, signifying the four Cups."
This marks the eighth time since the Islanders entered the league in 1972
that the team has made a significant change to their jersey or complete
uniform. The last time the Islanders played in a "Third Jersey" was in
2006-07 when the team donned an orange jersey for a number of home games.
"The jerseys are really nice," said Josh Bailey, who modeled one at the IBC
event. "They're really cool to wear, especially for the young guys because
it's a little bit like being part of the team's great tradition."
The Islanders new jersey will go on sale for the first time Saturday at the
Nassau Coliseum. Fans can come to the Coliseum from Noon to 4 pm for a
special sales event. Fans who purchase the new jersey at this time may have
the opportunity to meet a current or former Islanders player. Everyone who
purchases the jersey on Saturday will receive a voucher for two tickets to
the Islanders game against the Columbus Blue Jackets on Monday, November
3rd.
