With the scandal de-legitimizing the already suspect results of NBA
games, one can only turn his head to the questionable nature of NHL
officials in this day and age. With critical blown calls and
inexplicable penalties a nightly occurrence, what percentage of NHL
officials do you think are betting and manipulating the games as they
see fit?

A. 90%
B. 95%
C. 100%
D. CULLEN TRADE CHRISTMAS STATS HURRRRRRRRRRRRRR JOKE

My vote is B.

Nothing will change until the refs are allowed to set the pace on a
period-by-period basis. The NHL does itself no favors by allowing the
referees the kind of latitude to 'manage' a game the way they do. At a
minumum the rules and their enforcement should not be changing during
the season. That's off-season stuff, as is changing the draft order
etc.

Some nights it's like Rollerball out there and other nights you can't
get away with sneezing. So, what's a level-headed fan to think. I
think that somethings fishy upstairs.

If Gary Bettman wasn't so involved in his TV contracts and pushing the
game into smaller markets, maybe he could do something about it. Now,
the game has lost all significance. Nothing will change until we get a
better person for the job.

C. But, each referee bets on a different team. Which
is why you get a nightly 5 on 3 competition!

It's a shame because I remember a time when the NHL had alot of purity
left in it. But, I think those days are over. The only problem is that
the NHL is not taken anywhere as near as seriously as it once was.

What would happen if the Broad Street Bullies played today> The refs
would ruin every game they played in.
