Catastrophe averted. Somehow Detroit has been able to take 4 of 4 points
against two wildly superior NW division opponents, when any
semi-knowledgeable Wings hockey fan would have been thrilled just to not be
too terribly embarrassed in losing both games outright.

While the shortsighted and obscenely moronic among the Wings faithful might
take some degree of encouragement from Detroit's early 7 of 8 possible
points play, especially the production of Zetterberg and how Rafalski's
produced as much as every dman on the Avs roster combined, those who
actually possess the deep insight and the calm, deliberative and
dispassionate method of analyzing the NHL so vital to accurate assessment
know this is merely the beginning of the end for the Wings.

The hand reaching for the toggle on the toilet.
The grey-haired skinny doctor-guy's finger hovering near the on/off switch.
Tom's cursor inching slowly towards 'send message'.

It's all downhill from here. We've all known Detroit has been too old and
without any decent young players for... I think 7 or 8 years anyway... and
it's all catching up with the Wings now. Even the amazing Puppetmastery of
Jim Nill to somehow run an organization like Detroit as an Assistant GM
whilst being surrounded by buffoons and sycophants, the worst of whom are
actually his alleged bosses, is doomed to eventual failure. One man, albeit
a hockey messiah like Nill, can only do so much.

To all Wings fans within the sound of my virtual voice: Get off the
bandwagon now, I beg you. Spare yourself the precipitous drop into the mire
of abyssmalism (tm) and a surely generational residence amongst the
downtrodden and oppressed of the NHL for the Wings. They'll be like
Republicans.

The only way you can save your fan-sanity (tm) right now is to just switch
allegiance to a team who truly bursts with young HOF talent from every
orifice, stellar young goaltending, brilliant and versatile dmen, and
electrifying forwards. Run by an esteemed Nostradamus of all things NHL who
cleverly acquires injured goalies to be backups for 5.3 mil a year, and
supported by a rational, thoughtful fanbase whose opinions are routinely
copied and employed by the most shrewd of NHL GM's: the Colorado Avalanche.
They're really the only choice out there. Within two years at the most the
whole of the NHL will lie quivering at the feet of the mighty White, Reddish
and Blue, for who amongst them will be able to withstand the onslaught of
talent, youth, and unparalleled brilliance collected in one organization?
If the Avs even cared about truth in advertising they'd just rename
themselves the Justice League of Colorado and be done with it.

It's not too late, Wings fans. No-one in the state cares about hockey
anyway, so your switch won't even be noticed.

HD.

This gets my initial vote for POY this year. Good stuff. If nothing
else, the use of the term 'abyssmalism' gets it nominated for Too 10.

Ozzy had some bad beats due to some mis-ques by the defense. If we had a
5.5M backup (aka boat anchor) we would be doing better - right???

I'm just doing my part to save as many people as I can before the ship goes
down for good, Tom. Surely there can't be anything wrong with that, right?

If you start now you might get someone to like you by 2025.

If you really, really focus.

How are the Flames wildly superior. Rumour was earlier this year that the
Flames wouldn't even play in tilts outside of Alberta.

If you could just go ahead and post your next ten responses in exactly
the same fashion, that'd be a real time-saver.

Okay?Thanks!

Eh, if I wanted to go that route, I'd probably go with a web-based,
moderated forum.

If we didn't get some sort of perverse kick out of all this, we'd have
likely stopped responding to each other ten years ago.
