OK, so here it is. There's some room for hope. I've taken the last few
games of each team and made some predictions, just to see how it would turn
out assuming form holds true. The only real concessions to optimism I made
is that we beat St. Louis and win in Vancouver. Here's how I see it:

EDM
St. Louis: W
Dallas: L
Vancouver: T
Total points at end: 90

NASHVILLE
Chicago: W
Chicago: W
St. Louis: see below
Colorado: L
Total points at end: 89 + result of St. Louis game

ST. LOUIS
Edmonton: L
Detroit: L
Nashville: see below
Minnesota: W
Total points at end: 89 + result of Nashville game

Note that either Nashville or St. Louis, under this scenario, could end up
with 91 points if they win their head-to-head game. But even so, if that
were to happen, we'd still be in, and the loser of that game would be out.
Note, too, that this assumes the pessimistic view that Nashville will beat
Chicago twice, and that we will lose to Dallas yet again, and that we will
only tie Vancouver.

Even if we lose to St. Louis, we could still beat out Nashville if they gave
us some help by losing one of those Chicago games.

So all in all, I think I'm cautiously optimistic here.

I don't think 90 points will get us in. The Oil have to run the table and
if they do that they get in for sure. Nashville and St. Louis would have
the tie breakers on us because of more wins. If we can beat St. Louis in
regualtion time tomorrow we go two up on the Blues who can then only finish
with 93 points if they win their 3 remaining games. Because Nashville and
St. Louis play each other one of those teams will lose a minimum one point.
So whether it's Nashville or the Blues the total then becomes 92 points
guaranteeing us a spot. We can't rely on the likes of Chicago to beat the
Preds, get the job done yourself and leave nothing to chance.

No doubt it's better if the Oilers can 'win out', but Dave's scenario
seemed plausible to me. (Not that I'll go out and plunk the mortgage
down on bets to that effect, of course!)

If the Oilers win the last three, the city would HAVE to be going
completely nuts...this would be a comeback of historic proportions. But
I don't know if it's fair to *expect* it, as they're three pretty tough
opponents. If you had to pick one game to lose, it might be Dallas just
because of The Curse, even without Turco in net.

I just would hate to see lots of broken ankles (Fred, how're you doing?)
if the Oilers do lose one of the next three... ;-)

This does not take into account the dreaded OTL possibility in the Nash-Stl
game. That changes everthing. Murphys law eh? I'm of the opinion that we
need to win out and expect NO help from anybody else. After watching the
Chicago fiasco where St Loo was handed the game on a platter in the 1st
period I'm suddenly pessimistic again today. Well that, and its Monday ;o)

Good luck with that!

I'm trying to get some of that to rub off on me today. <G>

Or beer!..... I can't sit back sometimes, I feel like I oughta be pacing
around nervously like MacT. I shout uh,......instructions to the TV
routinely by now!. I don't even think about it anymore! Fortunately though
the TV doesn't answer back.
More games like Chi-Stl and I don't know about that
either..............................(cue twilight zone muzak). ;o)

I'll stick my neck out and forecast a three way tie of 90 points each.
Playoff positions determined by wins or goals scored.

I think the tiebreakers are wins first, then head-to-head records
second. I think the Oilers would likely lose the wins category anyway
to both teams, so I think that's a bad situation for the Oilers.

I like Dave's reasonable predictions, though. The best scenarios
obviously include the Oilers beating St. Louis on Tuesday!
