kind of eerie how the lack of conversation on this board is exactly like the
way the nhl and nhlpa are negotiating right now. . .
the longer this goes, the less people will care. and right now, i don't think
ANYONE cares. . .

It's pathetic listening to talk shows up here...I'm in and around Toronto-
all they do is bitch and moan about this thing. At least they still care I
suppose.

I stopped caring a long time ago- a Canadian not caring about hockey...the
worst nightmare of the NHL.

The local media covereage down here (L.A. area) is pathetic during the active
season. I haven't heard a thing for a long time. The only things I read
about are on TSN or Spector's page about the Swedish Elite League. Sounds
like Sweden is the place to be for hockey fans. The way this country is
going I would love to be there for more than one reason!

At least you have more than the NHL up there in Canada MF. All we have here
is radomn showings of Ice Dogs games on cable, that's it. How many minor
league or semi-pro games are shown on TV up there?

I think some of the AHL clubs are going to start with programmings soon- I'm
pretty sure the sports networks are waiting on the NHL to see if anything
comes up before they commit to anything. Thing is, AHL/OHL hockey is not
seeing increases in attendance...so I'm not sure if they'll get the ratings
they want.

Up around where I am, there's a few games a week of Kingston Frontenacs and
Ottawa 67's games....decent enough hockey...but I'm not all that interested
in it. Come to think of it, I won't be that interested when the NHL comes
back either.

Oh, and to further the media thing- when the lockout first started, it was
all over the place. Now they'll commit a few minutes here and there to idiot
callers with plans to save the league/NHLPA/world. Amusing but annoying.
NBA/NFL/CFL is leading broadcasts nowadays....and stuff like the NHLPA
meeting will get the lead story, but otherwise, it's on the backburner.

the local media here in l.a. doesn't know the difference between a hockey puck
and a bucket of kfc. they have to be the most incompetent - and i mean this in
the loosest terms possible - "sports journalists" in america. i wish they
understood hockey the way a fan understands it.

Helene Elliot is fuming mad at you right now!

I get the Ice Dogs games on channel 23 on my adelphia (i hate adelphia)
cable. It's some local type network in L.A. The Ice Dogs website may have
info. The camera angles are horrible.

what a tempting offer. let me read one of her, ahem, "knowledgeable" columns
first to get in the mood. . . she's as awful as they come, and is just the
latest in a long line of totally inept hockey writers for the l.a. times. a
very LONG line.

they'll put anyone (and I mean anyone) on that beat...and they
definitely have done so in recent years. it's pretty sad. at least you
can always read the smaller area papers (Press Telegram, Daily Breeze,
L.A. Daily News), but having a daily with the clout and circulation of
the L.A. Times continually blow their coverage is pretty sad, but not
too surprising when you see the way their Sports section in general has
been trending downward the past 5-10 years.

if you want to read in depth about college basketball and college football,
then the times is the place to go. if you want to read exhaustive rehash of
kobe and shaq, pick up a copy today. if you want and endless stream of ads for
tires and impotency cures, look no further. if you want quality coverage of
hockey, you're SOL.
