:Heh. Soccer's ratings are higher than the NHL's right now.

I'm referring to the location(s) of the Stanley Cup for over a decade.

When more than 4 Americans play in the NHL, and when more than 7 people
watch the games.

Poker has better tv ratings in the US.

Ehhh.. Americans/Canadians.. same difference. We'd annex them if it was
worth the effort; the operation would take a week.

Poker requires more intelligence and skill than hockey.

I dont think so, and when you think about it, why should they? They get
their name etched on the various trophies and those trophies live in the
"Great Hall" section of the Hockey Hall of fame.

The winners of the Stanley Cup do get rings though.

This bate made me laugh.

There are 7 American players on your Stanley Cup Champion Carolina
Hurricanes.

I bet ratings would eventually go up if they show shots while play is
going on from the bench side so you could see what's happening along
the near side boards.

The original bowl is just that...a bowl...on permanent display behind
glass.

The full size trophy awarded to the winning team (and the one that
travels) is generally considered to be the "real" cup. It has a
seal/logo on the bottom which you can see when it is hoisted overhead.
There are spelling mistakes and X-outs on this one.

The replica/duplicate (has no seal on the bottom) never leaves the HHOF
and is only on display when the "real" cup is on the road. There are no
spelling mistakes on this one.

Of course.

Man, that *is* awesome! I will have to put a trip to the HHOF on my
vacation wishlist.

The game was over, the players were all hugging family members and
each other, and the PA announcer introduced the Stanley Cup. It came
in from the opposite site of the arena from where I was sitting, and
was at first obscured. And then I saw it. I had never laid eyes on
it before. What immediately struck me was its brilliance in the arena
lights. It seemed to almost glow. The woman next to me was looking
for a friend in the crowd with her binoculars, so I tapped her on the
shoulder, pointed down to the Cup and said, "isn't it beautiful?". I
didn't want her to miss the spectacle. Having intentionally never
seen it before, for me it was almost like a groom standing at the
altar watching his bride walk down the aisle. It's a sight I'll never
forget.

... in the VAULT of the ex-bank. How cool is that. The
HHOF trophy hall is really done RIGHT. They've also got
the removed bands in there too. It's interesting to read
some of the old inscriptions. My other favorite part is
the replica of the Hab's dressing room from the forum. I'm
not even a Hab's fan. You really have to go there.

But they still get really nervous when you make like you're
about to hug it when it's on display. The "guard" didn't
like that at all... (not that I would ever touch it without
asking)

I'm sure somebody (probably a benchwarmer or some self-important low-level
management type) would be right there to pick it up and hoist it themselves.
