Well, there is the fact that Ken Holland said he's not going to re-sign
Markov.
I mean, I don't put much stock in anything that dipshit says, but if he
says he's not after Markov, and they haven't signed Markov at this
point, and they are bringing in Sopel...I'd have to say that it's
looking like they aren't after Markov. Call me crazy.

That was when Markov was asking $3 million. Seeing that training camps
are soon approaching, Markov is unsigned, I suspect his asking price
will drop to the $2.5 that Holland would be willing to pay.

Hey, Boucher, I heard a rumour Brett Sopel was headed your way. The
rumour-monger said he was going to make the Wings' 'D' tougher. >> Stay informed about: Where's the discussion? |

Wings can't afford $2.5m.
And even if they could, they would be fools to throw even more money at
defensemen when they still don't have a 2nd line of any sort.
With Sopel and now Cullimore added, there is nowhere for Markov to play,
even if they could afford him.
Markov is gone. Everyone knew this months ago.

The only constant on last year's second line that is gone is Lang who
well easily be replaced by Filuppla. Calder and Jason Williams but
they too are easily replaced.

Unless you think being an unsigned training camp invitee means you on
the final team than yes they've been added.

They aren't $5m under the cap.

Filppula is not a 2nd line-caliber player.

Yeah, but you have to have something to replace them with. The Wings don't.

Everything I have heard is that Sopel is going to have to play himself
off the team. Cullimore, same thing.
One of them could end up in Grand Rapids, but unless Kindl knocks some
socks off, both of them are most likely going to be Wings.
Regardless, Markov is gone.

From Dan Cleary:
"When I look at our team and the depth that we have, obviously management
believes we can do it from within," Cleary said. "Filppula-great young
talent. Hudler, Franzen all have the ability to make up the second line."
Draper agreed.
"You look at Filppula; you look at the year Clears had last year," Draper
said. "From the sounds of it, Pav and Hank are each going to play center. So
we can still have a balance of some good lines."
