Plus, he paid every creditor in full.

Balsillie was told that under _no_ circumstances would he be allowed
to move the team. No other team in the league - or in any other
league - has such a clause in their contract with the league. This
is preposterous and was designed to screen him out of the picture,
for reasons unknown to us. It is clear, however, that if an
American were to move the team, he would not move it to Canada,
which Balsillie would consider doing. And in any case, no potential American
owner will be offered the same contract.

There is nothing that Balsillie said or did that indicated that he
had even the slightest intention of moving the team to Canada. That
was a rumour drummed up by the press, with the NHL possibly helping
out.

We live squarely in the area that would have been home to the
Penguins if all of the rumours were correct. And yet nobody in this
area is talking about it because everyone knows that it couldn't
possible happen. The Sabres, the Dead Things, and the Leafs
(especially) would never allow it.

um, where have you been? lemieux has been trying for *7* years and has
been stabbed in the back countless times. the whole time mario
conducted himself in an honorable way-- never threatening to move the
team-- and was a gentleman. it got him nowhere.

then he takes the initiative to set up a partnership with a private
company that will build a brand new facility with NO TAXPAYER money.
what do the politicos do? vote down IOC and betray lemieux again.

what's he supposed to do? cruise along losing tons of money every
year? sit idly by and watch as the impressive stable of young talent
all leaves town because they can't afford their contracts?
