that hurts, man.
alaska was fantastic. 65 degrees and sunny 98% of the time. wedding
was nice...only a couple of minor glitches. went on a 26 glacier
cruise, did a little hiking. spent most of the trip in girdwood about
45 minutes south of anchorage. it's just a beautiful place...at least
in that part of the state. my brother has sent me pics from business
trips he's made to the middle of nowhere. not so pretty. little shanty
towns basically. we didn't see any wildlife though except for otters,
seals, and some birds when we were on the 4 hour cruise. no bear, no
moose, no eagles. just some friggin squirrels, rabbits and tons of
dogs. i think there are more dogs than people there. i ate moose and
caribou for the first time, and reindeer sausage is excellent. salmon
too, naturally.
i was surprised to learn there's only one real ski resort in the
state, alyeska, which is in girdwood. you'd think with all those crazy
mountains there'd be more of them. great visiting, but i wouldn't want
to live there.
back to my regularly scheduled dreaming....
