Well considering it is a lot warmer in winter. (Although I think I
have seen hockey played in the winter outdoors in Boone) And it seems
like a lot of retire Canadians have no problem goin to the warmer
climate after retirement and they're huge hockey fans.

Well, there are a lot of kids growing up with it now. And besides we
all knwo NASCAR is more popular south of highway 64 and then when you
cross into SOuth Carolina...oh boy it's like Saskatchewan, juut not as
flat and a lot warmer. But they're just like them stuble jumpers.

Question for you my friend, would you rather see the league and game
grow, or jsut be a niche sport that no one really cares about?

While I appreciate North Carolina's development of NASCAR from the days
when outlaws would run moonshine in their souped up cars, I have never
learned to like it. My wife's aunt/uncle even owned two Winston Cup
teams up until two seasons ago, and we were always welcome to attend
the races and hang out in the luxury truck/trailer, but I just couldn't
get the ambition to go.

I'm looking forward to a great SCF. I don't know much about the Oilers
or any of the Western teams. I know some of the players, particularly
Pronger, who I have liked since he was with St. Louis. It seems that
the Oilers are more physical than the Canes, from watching the Oilers
and Ducks series.

I know you fans have got to be pleased to be returning to a SCF. It's
the best.

There are no ECHL teams whatsoever in Virginia.

There is one in North Carolina (in Charlotte).

There are two in South Carolina (Columbia and North Charleston). One
folded recently (in Greenville).

Yes, Phoenix built a new palace.

I used to have Sharks season tickets. After Minnesota, and
then Winnipeg and Quebec lost their teams, I was sick to my stomach,
and
decided to not contribute to the demise of NHL hockey in
traditional markets. I was hoping (in 1995 when I didn't renew)
Hartford would hang on.

I'm still hoping Edmonton (and Pittsburgh)
will hang on too. I went to Rexall Place for the first
time last week. It is not a competitive facility, as compared to
the palace in San Jose, and I'm sure RBC is very beautiful too.
It seems unlikely that a city government more concerned with
the welfare of its residents will build the Oilers a new palace.

There will come a time when the 'Canes aren't so good. It's facility
won't be as pretty anymore. And some other city desparate to
become "major league" will make an effort to woo the team away.

If the Oil wins this Cup, it will buy the club years more time in
Edmonton,
more time to figure out how to finance a new building.
It is perverse, but in a way, Caniacs should be cheering for that
outcome,
because the longer hockey is viable in small traditional markets, the
longer it can be viable in somewhat larger, untraditional, and
marginal markets.

the refused to build one with 20,000 seats in it.
If Winnipeg is able to add say 6000 more seats to their new arena they
MIGHT be able to lure the Florida Panthers there in 2008
