I was watching the Islanders lose tonight (my second favorite past-
time) and I had a question about a review.

In the third period, some Ottawa shlub knocked the puck in with a high-
stick. The replay clearly showed his stick was level with his face,
which was clearly higher than the crossbar. The Ottawa announcers
said they'd be "shocked" if it counted -- which it did. My question
is whether anybody knows why? Did it hit the Islander defenseman
first? Did anyone else see it?

I find it impossible to believe the review was inconclusive (which is
what the Ottawa announcers attributed it to).

The NHL ruled that counting the goal would be more exciting.

I heard a similar review on a different game last night (I don't
remember which game it was, as I heard parts of three different games;
it *might* have been Vancouver-Calgary). The issue was which part of the
stick the puck hit. So, the blade of the stick could be high and if the
puck hits the shaft and the shaft is below shoulder-level, the goal
counts. (In the game I was listening to, the goal was waved off.)

The Ottawa replay was conclusive. The puck hit the blade which was at
eye level. I don't understand the goal call at all. They clearly
messed up in Toronto.

They have done that before.

I expect the league will suspend you 10 games for that comment.

Fantasy Hockey -

Hockey Is back - Well it wasn't the Rangers but I did get to see some live action in Trenton tonight. With no dog in the fight I was hoping they would kill each other and it looked like it might happen in the first period - five fights. Flyers win 4 of the bouts with..

Well, so what. It's just a hockey game. - On a more important note, this ng beats alt.sports.hockey.nhl.ana- mighty-ducks hands down - nothing but spam and MI5 post over there. Nothing even put up there in February. Now, that's sad. Anaheim fans should be ashamed of themselves.

Anaheim in 6, Ottawa in 6 - And the Ducks take home the Cup.

How was that any different.... - How was that waved-off goal in Buffalo any different than the one in game 1 against the Rangers? Why did that one count, and this one didn't? By the way, VS. is absolutely terrible. Joe Beninati? Why don't they just get Rick Jeanerette or some other....
