Absolutely, those plays of just batting the puck out of zone or
sending passes to nobody need to vanish. That's nota recipe for
success against good clubs. Also, apply more pressure on the
periphery of the opponent attack, so they don't just sit out there
looking for the open man. Make them think about being hit.
Forecheck, forecheck, forecheck. The best way to avoid defensive
mistakes is to have to play very little of it. It, also, makes it
less necessary to focus on one player, like Forsberg, because he'll be
getting hit, along with everybody else.
Move both bodies and the puck on the power play. The recent power
play has look woeful because they don't attack the zone with speed
coming in, and when they finally do get in, they pass it aorund like
it's a gravy boat at Thanksgiving, so slow the defense moves right
along with the puck. Also, I've noticed Sharks outmanned along the
boards on loose pucks when THEY have the extra man. That's
inexcusable, period.
Nashville should be thinking about only one thing: "little footsteps."
