Incredibly mediocre first.
Incredibly awful second.
Incredibly amazing third.

Not a lot to go on at this point, but it was nice to see they didn't
get in a rut after that second period. Drury scored a huge goal (no
surprise). Jagr was great in the third period, and apparently in the
wrong building in the first two. Girardi was the same solid wall he
was all last year -- I'd probably marry him if I could. Gomez may
actually be worth a 7th of what he's paid if he can rush the power
play the way he was. His speed really does open up room the way Matt
Cullen did, but unlike Matt Cullen, his hands aren't made of masonry.

And finally -- Henrik Lundqvist was the real first star of the night.
Both goals came from shitty plays in front of him, and he kept them in
there during that awful second period.

(Callahan will win the Calder, bank on it)

How was Gomez, and I know you mentioned Cullen but I think you were
being sarcastic, so how was Cullen?

I think the strategy was to put Vokoun to sleep through 2 periods and then
shatter him in the third. He was aweful in the third.

Nothing new there. Jagr sleep walks until he thinks it's time to turn it on.
That line is much better when Jagr is the one making things happen and Drury
feeds off of that as opposed to Drury being the one expected to create the
plays. Game winner for Drury. It doesn't take too freaking long for that to
happen does it?

Get in line, honey.

Well they were today. He would have had 2 or 3 self generated break-aways if
he wasn't fighting the puck like he was. I think he was probably nervous. I
was really expecting more from Avery. He didn't seem too into the game
tonight. Hopefully that line clicks a little better over the next few games.
If Avery doesn't bring the intensity and fury that he is expected to, he's
going to be on the third or fourth line in no time.

The Girardi-Orr stick boggle situation was unfortunate. But Lundqvist is
basically going to have to stand on his head for a good part of the season
while this team finds it's chemistry. He was definitely the first star. Or
at least 1B.

He's a fun little player isn't he? Even if there isn't anything offensive
happening for him, he is hitting any player that comes in his vicinity and
is always buzzing around the puck. He's a definite keeper.

Gerardi is the real Cinderella story. For a guy that was passed in the
draft by EVERYONE, he sure is playing well.

Invisible, just like his linemates. Judging by your assessment of the
Devils, he was possibly having some phantom pains.

How was that any different.... - How was that waved-off goal in Buffalo any different than the one in game 1 against the Rangers? Why did that one count, and this one didn't? By the way, VS. is absolutely terrible. Joe Beninati? Why don't they just get Rick Jeanerette or some other....

Team +/- leader? - NY Rangers website lists top plus/minus player for 06-07 season was ... Marek Malik??? How the hell is that possible? Is it simply that he played most often with the top scoring line. Hopefully those in charge will look beyond the stat ... PLEASE?
