I think it would be great if Lou could get Brian Campbell, but downside
is how much money he'd probably command.
Brooks Orpik seems like the kind of solid hard hitting D-man this team
lost when Dano and Stevens retired and White hurt the eye.
Then there's this guy I never heard of because he plays in Columbus and
doesn't have big numbers. Ron Hainsey. Big guy. was a -7 in Columbus,
but what I did like about the kid is of his 8 goals, all 8 were on the
PP and of his 24 assists, 15 were on the PP and 1 Short-handed assist.
That's better than what we've had back there. More PP production than
Martin and Oduya combined, our 2 top Defensive point getters. Could be a
cheaper alternative.
Just throwing this stuff out there.
Redden's available too, but he's a bit unpredictable, but who knows?

If I had to choose, I'd rather have Redden over Campbell. I don't
like Campbell playing in this system. Granted, he'd still be our best
defenseman, but considering the money he's going to get, I'd want to
get max value out of him and that won't happen the way this current
club is set up. He still isn't all that great on the defensive end of
things. He'd be better staying with the Sharks or at least finding a
club with the same mentality as the Sabres. Meaning, he'll probably
take the millions upon millions handed to him by the Rangers only to
realize they trap like nobody's business and effectively take away his
only asset. One can only hope, I suppose.
Redden, despite leading the charge for the Ottawa choke-job, has a
better chance of thriving here. Though, Ottawa fans apparently hate
his guts. Perhaps it would be wise to stay away from the "The Big
Two" this year.
If Salvador's supposed asking price turns out to be the market rate
for the summer, Lamoriello is either going to have to bite the bullet
or accept the steady diet of Sheldon Brookbank as a regular. And hope
that Finnish kid he signed isn't a complete disaster. So, you'd have
to weigh that against risking another potentially awful contract.
Seems like a lose/lose situation to me. Just shows you how important
it is to draft better these now more than ever.
Signed,

Orpik is the best of the bunch as far as what the Devils need. >> Stay informed about: Available D-men |

Probably, or at least one of them. But he's going to automatically be
extremely overpaid because of his youth and "potential." I wonder if
Lou will have the stomach. Maybe he can get his man if the big
spenders are too busy falling over themselves for Campbell and Redden.
