After the game, I found myself on top of a high building, looking at
the pavement below, waiting to kiss it.

But before I jumped, I stood there on the edge of my destiny and
redlined my brain into overdrive in an attempt to find a reason to
live. I could not. Just more reasons to end it all in a spectacular
splash of guts and no glory.

Then a stranger wearing a Ken Daneyko jersey circa 1988 appeared as if
shot through the stars on a laser, and handed me a hot chocolate.

"Thanks," I said, "It's cold out there tonight. I'm going to jump
from this rooftop, but I will finish this first."

The stranger merely nodded, and walked away.

I finished the beverage, but didn't complete my leap. I just went
home.
