Last year, GM's and players around the NHL were appalled when Clarke signed
Kessler to an offer sheet. Vanek's an even bigger name, so I'm wondering why
it doesn't seem like people are as pissed.

The Sabres are plenty pissed. But whatever...For them to be pissed is
bullshit.

i mentioned this in my thread about the offer sheet. had this been the
flyers or rangers or another big market, but particularly the flyers,
everyone would be up in arms about it. but because it's edmonton
involved with another small market team that people somehow feel badly
for both because of their ineffective free agency periods, it's
somehow ok.

meanwhile, buffalo could have locked up vanek earlier and set their
own price. now they've allowed another team to set the price for them,
vastly overpaying to keep their own asset and ridiculously raising the
bar for other entry level contract expirees looking for their next
payday. while the likes of briere, gomez and drury are earning raises,
perhaps on the excessive side, you can at least make an argument for
these guys because of their experience and consistent play. but vanek?
the guy's 2 years into the league. silly.

horrible gming by both lowe and regier.
