I think playing tough means being totally committed to winning all
battles, but not necessarily looking to put somebody out of the
playoffs, per se. You hit guys all the time to take them out of their
game and have them hearing "little footsteps," not because you have a
chance to send somebody to the injury list.
I was watching some highlights of previous Sharks' games just last
night and was thinking how inexcusable it was to lose those first
three games of the Dallas series, two at home, no less. There was
just no excuse for that. Dallas isn't a better team, far from it, as
can be quickly see n in the Detroit series. The Sharks just donated
another playoff series by their entirely typical sleepwalking for 2-3
games before waking up, when it was too late, even with the last
game's heroic effort.
With this team, almost all of the disappointment can be traced to
menatl lapses and unpreparedness. Win just one of those first three
games, any one, and the Sharks would now be playing Detroit, no doubt.
