there are a few Canucks related articles in the province today. This be
one of em.

How can Canucks GM Mike Gillis, who has vowed to go after players with
"character, integrity and intelligence," pick the bad boy of junior
hockey, should Beach slip and be available to Vancouver at No. 10
overall?
A better question, according to those who know the Everett Silvertips
star best, is:

How can they not?

From the Province article:

"Where they are picking is right where a lot of people think I will go,"
Beach said. "It's an exciting time. I grew up my whole life watching the
Canucks. To get a chance to play with them would be a great honour."

Gotta like that.

On the U18 team, when he thought Team Canada head coach Dave Barr was
giving Ontario players preferential ice time Beach taped "Team
Ontario" across his jersey.

The adjectives used for Beach remind me a bit of the ones used on
Stojanov back in '90....and we thought we got a steal late in the 1st
round there.

We did. And so did Pittsburgh. Without him, we would never have ended up
with Naslund. Now that was a steal.

Canucks who sent scouts Ron Delorme and Harold Snepsts to meet with
Beach a couple of weeks ago............

Should have sent them to the beach and met with him himself.

Heh, well they could have drafted Naslund straight away who went a few spots
after they took Stojanov. :-)

But at the time it seemed like a good pick. It was Stojanov who had multiple
double shoulder dislocations, wasn't it ? That's what really screwed up his
career. Tough to throw a punch when your shoulder is next to your groin. :-)

He sounds like a good pick and I've had my eye on him for six months.
I grew up in Kelowna, where he's from, and it would please me a lot.

That said, he's not considered a fast skater, his offensive stats are
good but not eye popping, and he's had multiple concussions. So that
might downgrade him as much or more than so-called character issues.

Well that's good to hear. I'm going to phone Beach and tell him to
start cramming.

It sure is high. I am going to miss the sound of driving over that
metal part of the old bridge. Actually, I won't, it scared me as a
child.

The Willow Inn is closed!

Ah well, I am sure Mitzy has long retired anyways...

As someone who made the yearly trek to the Kelowna Regretta, and
slept on the beach to the right of the bridge, where is the new Bennett
bridge located ?

Phoning in sick to work cause I was sharing a bed with sisters in the Willow
Inn, learning a stupid drunken buddy stole a city tractor and buried it grill
first in the swamp by the bridge and looking at it's tire marks in the sand
and how close he came to squishing people sleeping on the beach, having
our coach have to drag us out of the National [ ? ] 10 minutes before we
were scheduled to play [ first time I had to take a cold shower before the
game ]......... ahh the memories, I love Kelowna.

Jim
