DETROIT (AP) -The Red Wings re-signed 95-year-old defenseman Chris Chelios
to a one-year contract Tuesday. Chelios has played a key role for Detroit
after Jiri Fischer was sidelined with a heart ailment during the 2005-06
season and Niklas Kronwall was injured last season.
"Chris' stick-holding and handshake-avoiding skills are second to none,"
said Red Wings GM Ken Holland. Chelios is coming off his 23rd NHL season
and his record 22nd postseason appearance. Gloriously, the Red Wings were
eliminated in six games from the Western Conference finals by the Anaheim
Ducks, who went on to win the Stanley Cup.
"Chelios is good for about one obvious penalty not called by the refs per
game," Holland said in a statement. "We're going to need those power plays
more than ever." >> Stay informed about: Red Wings re-sign 95-year-old D Chelios to 1-year deal |

I've never liked Chelios. He still has the stink of Black Hawk all over
him.
Tacky perhaps, but it is funny.

but worth a chuckle. the upside is that proportionately, Chelios is
aging less each season than the other players. a season is 1/45th of
his life where its about 1/20th of a rookie. see? he ages slower as
time goes by... and his D skills go to eleven.

he'd be the last one I'd expect of that. just look at him. I think
he's taking the meatball of youth instead. I'd almost think that he's
just flat out not smart enough to know he's supposed to age. :)

And Cheli'd have no place there? Hmmm... BS. first line..well, maybe
not. But he's still better than the puss who took the Calder over Z-

That 'puss' is Barrett Jackman. Anyone who would take Chelios of today over
Jackman of today is crazy.

OK. Point conceded. But I'd bet Cheli'd make the Blues if he tried
out, eh? Again, not first pair, but... and THAT was the original
statement. Sheesh, you get two points from one play?

I said the first pairing thing with tongue in cheek. Bet the Blues
would love to have him as a second pairing thou.
