espn is reporting tonight that the league and the union have agreed to meet
next week and resume talks. IT'S ABOUT TIME!! what have these clowns been
waiting for? this is the 78th day of the lockout, and they haven't talked since
early september? unbelieveable.
well, at least if they're talking, there is some guarded hope of working out a
deal and salvaging part of this season.

I'd love to be optimistic about it, but nothing's going to happen. The
result will be "we've consitently told the Player's Association that salary
certainty is required and this proposal doesn't have that certainty".

Look for a lost season and the owner's declaring an impasse. I wouldn't be
surprised if the owner's have been saving for a couple of years in
preparation for this lost season.

The only ace in the owners hand is that if no deal is made in the next 2-3
weeks there will be no NHL players allowed in the 2006 winter olympics. I
know it's not much, but some of the name players love representing their
countries. Hopefully in 7 days we will all have an early holiday gift, a
shortened season.

i'm going to hold out at least a little hope that they will start to make some
progress. we all know that these negotiations can take weeks, so i don't think
one meeting this week on thursday is going to solve the whole impasse. however,
i can see them making some progress, even if only minor things. i don't think
it will be like the paris peace talks during the vietnam war, where reportedly
it took them several weeks or months just to decide on the shape of the table
the negotiatiors from both sides would use for the talks to end the war.
