I'm a big advocate of the latter. I don't judge a trade by the
intentions, or what a situation was at the time. If the trade didn't
work out over time, then it's a bad trade. If it does, then it's a
good trade.

Depends on the nature of the trade.

If it's a team going for the Cup, a trade can be good or bad the
second it is made.

If it's a team building for the future, a trade should be judged when
the player(s) acquired have developed.
