The problem in the past few playoff runs had been that Turco didn't step up.
In the NHL, your goalie has to be able to steal a game or two for you in the
playoffs. This year, Turco delivered. I wont say he was super human,
because (as in Game 6) he really wasn't challenged much. But he did what
his job. The only 3 games Dallas won, Turco had shutouts. It is time to
back off Marty and focus on the real problem.

We have no great players. We have lots of good players. We have lots of
players that used to be great. Modano and Lehtinen are certainly not close
to what they used to be. Zubov is still one of our better players, though
I'd have to say our best is Stu Barnes. Morrow has showed signs at times
that he could be great, but he certainly isn't there yet. We need a spark.
A super-star. We need greatness.

This year it was the team. The entire team should have played with the same
intensity all series but chose not too.

From a Canucklehead I'd say, yes, Barnes was the most consistent
Dallas player, and was very dangerous offensively, and excellent
defensively.

Modano has lost a step and is converging on his draft-mate Linden.
Good players, good leadership. But not what they were (and for
Modano, the fall will be further). Morrow must have had some kind of
injury, he is a rock solid player.

The key to game 7 was losing Zubov. All that Canucks pressure in
periods 2 and 3 would have been much less possible with Zubov moving
the puck out, and the PP would have been much more effective as well.

And I seriously doubt there has ever been a losing goalie with 3
shutouts in a 7 game series. Wow.

Defensively the stars were excellent especially their techniques to
interrupt the cycle. Good coaching. But the forwards were on a tight
leash so its hard to assess the talent up front when you basically
roll four checking lines!

Wait till next year!!

Try getting a TV contract for next year or disband the league again. Most
Americans don't even know the NHL still exists.

Don't put words in my mouth, Troll-bait. As an American I KNOW that the NHL
exists and I'm a BIG fan of the Dallas Stars.

If you don't like the NHL, here's what you do: don't attend the games,
don't watch on TV and oh yeah, quit trolling an NHL team's newsgroup, loser!

I can't watch on TV since they don't have a television contract. It's pretty
bad when you can't find a single network amongst the hundreds to show your
pitiful product. So like I said, what to take from this year is the motivation
to try again to find a broadcast outlet. I'm not trolling, just giving some
helpful advice.

CBC has always carried NHL. Ever hear of Hockey Night in Canada? Who cares
if no American network ever broadcasts another NHL game? The NHL was in fine
shape, thank you, when there were only 6 teams and the best thing that could
happen to it now would be to lose 6. Time spent trying to woo folks like you
away from basketball is time wasted. I've never watched an entire NBA game
in my life- don't think I could force myself to endure it, and I don't
expect the NBA is going to fall over it's feet trying to sell me on their
oddball pseudo-sport.

One of Canada's commercial networks. (I've lived in Texas for 42 years, and
know that much...)

Oh. Well if that's what is keeping the NHL from going belly up then they
should move the franchises there.

Where did anyone say that? (Like it or not, you're in a state that has more
pro hockey teams than the entire Dominion of Canada. This season, Canada has
six NHL teams, three in the AHL (Manitoba, Hamilton, and Toronto), and one
ECHL team (in Victoria, of all places). Texas has one NHL, two AHL (San
Antonio and Houston), seven CHL (Amarillo, Lubbock, Odessa, Laredo, Rio Grande
Valley, Corpus Christi, and Austin), and one ECHL (Texas, playing in
Beaumont)). Texas wins, 11-10.

Another thing to take from this year is the fact that no matter how irrelevant
the NHL is to American sports, always remember that professional soccer is
even more so. But, on the other hand, soccer is actually played in some school
districts whereas hockey isn't. So maybe hockey is the most irrelevant sport
after all.
